Curriculum Overview

The fellowship curriculum is structured to provide broad, progressive exposure across critical care environments while allowing flexibility to individualize training. Year 1 includes a focus on developing strong foundational skills through core rotations, complemented by protected research and elective time. MICU night rotations occur during the second half of the academic year to promote growing clinical independence with appropriate supervision.

Year 2 promotes increased responsibility and autonomy, with additional MICU and night experience, expanded elective and research time, and continued exposure to key subspecialty services. Elective opportunities include, but are not limited to, bronchoscopy, pulmonary consultations, nephrology, radiology, infectious disease, and palliative care. Second year elective time may also be spent in any prior rotation in which the fellow would like additional experience, allowing for further skill development tailored to individual career goals. The program is also supportive of independently arranged away-electives.

This graduated structure is designed to balance clinical depth, autonomy, and flexibility while supporting fellows’ individual career goals.

Educational Curriculum

In addition to the inpatient training that our program’s curriculum offers, we recognize the importance of a broad critical care curriculum and research opportunities. Our schedule has been designed to offer a multidisciplinary cirruculum featuring didactic sessions, as well as Journal Club, Grand Rounds, case presentations, an opportunity to take part in M&M sessions, conferences, and designated research rotations.
