Continuity Clinic

Our residents care for a diverse patient panel across the lifespan—from newborns and pregnant patients to older adults with complex medical needs. Training focuses on providing compassionate, hands-on osteopathic care for a wide spectrum of conditions, including musculoskeletal complaints, postoperative recovery, chronic pain, functional disorders and trauma-related concerns. Residents develop strong patient-centered skills while gaining depth in osteopathic diagnosis and treatment.

Didactic Education

Residents benefit from protected didactic time every Friday afternoon, offering a structured and immersive learning environment. Core components include:

  • Discussion of assigned readings
  • Anatomy presentations linked to clinical relevance
  • Hands-on technique demonstrations
  • Journal Club
  • Board review preparation

Journal Club

ONMM Journal Club meets monthly as part of the MSU GME Alliance didactic series. Articles with strong osteopathic relevance are selected and shared in advance to foster thoughtful, evidence-based discussion.

Grand Rounds

Residents are required to participate in regular Grand Rounds offered throughout the hospital system. Topics commonly include:

  • Clinical updates
  • Wellness and fatigue mitigation
  • Sleep health
  • Professional development
  • Business and operations of medicine

Attendance supports continuous learning and interdepartmental collaboration.

American Academy of Osteopathy (AAO) Convocation

Residents attend the annual AAO Convocation each March, which provides exposure to leading experts, new research and advanced hands-on training. During this event, residents complete the onsite practical portion of the in-service examination. The meeting also offers exceptional networking and professional growth opportunities.

Cranial Osteopathy Course

Completion of a 40-hour cranial course is required for graduation, ideally during the first training year. Residents entering the ONMM-3 pathway are highly encouraged to have completed a Cranial Academy–approved 40-hour course prior to starting, as it provides valuable preparation for the accelerated curriculum.

Additional Learning Opportunities

We encourage residents to pursue high-quality off-site CME offerings related to ONMM. The program supports participation in MSU GME Alliance educational opportunities as well as AOAand AAO-approved courses. Residents are empowered to pursue areas of special interest and deepen their osteopathic skill set.

Resident Wellness and Support

We recognize the importance of supporting resident wellbeing throughout training. The program incorporates:

  • Scheduled wellness sessions several times per year
  • Opportunities for reflection, mindfulness, and resilience-building
  • Access to MSU GME Alliance wellness resources
  • Protected time for wellness-focused activities and team building

Our goal is to promote a balanced, sustainable residency experience where trainees feel supported both professionally and personally.
