What impacted me the most about the program though was everyone's kindness and willingness to teach and support. Lastly, I felt that this would be a great location to live with my growing family. I am excited to be part of this great program and community.

The things I enjoy the most outside of work include spending time with my wife and family, movies, volleyball, soccer, board and card games, singing/music, disc golf, and reading.

I chose this program/location for my training:: After rotating through the clinic for one month as a student, I knew Mercy Muskegon FM was the perfect residency program for me. Everyone at the clinic was supportive, team-oriented, and incredibly welcoming. I genuinely looked forward to going into work every day of my rotation and received quality training while I was there.

Outside of work I enjoy backpacking/hiking, camping, Euchre, bonfires, crocheting, baking, long naps, and eating far too much Chick-fil-A sauce.

Why I chose this program/location for my training

Since being a base student at Mercy Health Muskegon, I’ve experienced to the fullest not only everything this hospital and community can provide, but also all that the Fruitport Family Medicine program has to offer: small program size for personalized training, clinical faculty with strong passion to teach, a solid foundation of osteopathic philosophy and principles that are driven with OMT opportunities in the community and clinic, procedural training opportunities, well organized didactic structure, vast amount of elective time to craft a program suitable to our career interests, and most importantly the amazing compassion and camaraderie between all the residents really makes the program a true family.

Hobbies/interests outside of work

I am passionate about all things outdoors such as mountain biking, fishing, hiking, camping, bon fires, and watching sunsets. I am an avid golfer, enjoy being out on the water whether it's swimming, boating, or laying out on the beach, and am a very family oriented person! I also love traveling places any chance I get and have visited places like Peru, Cuba, and the Hawaiian islands just to name a few. I am a huge movie goer with my favorite being marvel, and enjoy listening to music especially pop hits.

I chose this program because of the connection I developed with the residents, attendings, and patients during my audition rotation. Muskegon's family medicine program was one of the friendliest programs that I spent time with as a student. All the residents and staff are kind and welcoming, and the faculty are excellent teachers. Furthermore, as a Grand Rapids native, Muskegon is close to home and family, which is very important to me.

I enjoy golfing, biking and playing yard games with my friends and family when the weather is warm. When it's cold out I like to take to the trails on my snowshoes, and then warm up by watching movies or playing board games with a nice glass of whiskey.

Muskegon is a great location with quick access to Lake Michigan and an abundance of outdoor activities. Additionally, it is only a short drive from Grand Rapids and Grand Haven for all my city needs.

What ultimately won me over, however, were the residents and attendings at the Fruitport Family Medicine clinic. Everyone was friendly, inviting and quite simply fun to be around. Everyone was eager to teach and it left a strong impression of being a great environment to train.

Growing up on the east side of the state, West Michigan was a favorite vacation destination for my family. Why I chose this program/location for my training

I chose Mercy Health because it honestly felt like family when I did my 4th year rotation here. The residents I worked with helped me feel like I was a part of the team. Whenever I struggled with something, they were always willing to help with the most sincere and genuine smile. Not only did I get along with my future co-residents, but the rest of the staff were also welcoming and this dynamic truly allowed me to grow and learn during my time there.

Hobbies/interests outside of work

Growing up in a Vietnamese family where all my meals were made from scratch, I grew to love cooking and making meals for myself and those I love because that's what my parents did for me. The end result of cooking, eating, is obviously a favorite hobby of mine as well, and I think the conversations that people make sitting around a dinner table can really deepen friendships and relationships.

I focus a lot on healthy meals and recipes and highlighting ingredients people normally don't think they can enjoy and enhance it for their experience. In conjunction to healthy meals, I also enjoy leading an active lifestyle whether it be biking, running, being outdoors or getting in a good active gym session. I believe being active and feeding your body good food are essentials for self-care, which is important at any point in your life!

I am from Manistee, Michigan originally and I love West Michigan. I love the mix of small town atmosphere, while still having some big town feel as well. There is a very large need in Muskegon county for the health care, as it is one of the most underserved counties in the state which was a big draw for me. Why I chose this program/location for my training

I heard how the residents in this program are well trained. I had also heard about the diverse population here in Muskegon and the challenges that they have to overcome to strive for health. I rotated here for one month as a medical student and in one month learned more than a lot of my other rotations during medical school. Meeting the staff, the attendings and residents reaffirmed my desire to join this program that puts patients first and at the same time focuses on the well-being of the residents.
