While I didn't spend my childhood in West Michigan, it became my home in my teenage years. I have fallen in love with West Michigan, and want to be able to help give back to the community. I know that at the Trinity Health Muskegon Family Medicine Residency I will have the education and support to become the best physician that I can be.

Why I chose this program/location for my training

I chose the family medicine residency program at Trinity Health Muskegon because the program provides extensive training in procedures, including vasectomies, IUD insertions, colposcopies and skin procedures, in the setting of a team-based care that supports residents through the highs and lows of training.

It also offers an Inpatient/Outpatient Balance: The curriculum has a strong mix of outpatient care at Fruitport Family Medicine and inpatient experience, including the opportunity to manage pregnancies and perform vaginal deliveries, which set the basic training to apply for a fellowship program in family medicine OBGYN.

Lastly, Muskegon offers a wonderful quality of life, featuring lakes, beaches, trails, hunting, camping and local breweries that provide a balance between work activities, family life and good mental health.

I like to participate in outdoor activities with family and friends, dancing and enjoy reading about innovative treatments of various types of illnesses.

Why I chose this program/location for my training

I chose this program because of its strong emphasis on full-spectrum family medicine and the opportunity to care for patients across all stages of life, from pediatrics to geriatrics. I was especially drawn to the continuity of care and the ability to build long-term relationships with my own patient panel. The program’s integration of medical, psychosocial, and practice management training aligns closely with my goal of becoming a well-rounded primary care physician.

Additionally, the supportive environment and strong sense of community I experienced during my interview made it feel like the ideal place to grow both professionally and personally.

Outside of work, I enjoy solving math puzzles and brain teasers, which reflects my background as a math major. I also love learning languages – I’m fluent in Hindi and Urdu and have advanced proficiency in Spanish and Arabic. In my free time, I enjoy going on walks and spending time in nature. I also love re-watching episodes of White Collar with my three younger sisters.

Being born and raised in Grand Haven, I’ve always known I wanted to return home to West Michigan’s Lakeshore to live and practice family medicine, caring for the community that shaped me. When I visited Trinity Health Michigan’s Family Medicine Residency Program, I immediately felt at home as everyone was so incredibly kind and welcoming.

This program offers comprehensive, full-spectrum family medicine training with strong resident-centered education. Not only is this residency a perfect geographic fit, but it is also the best program match I could have hoped for.

Hobbies/what I do outside of work

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time at the beach and doing various crafts such as painting, cross-stitch and crocheting. My husband and I share many hobbies that fill our free time, including tent camping, hiking and exploring Michigan’s natural beauty with our two high-energy dogs. I also love helping him in his career as a residential builder, serving as the designer and offering an extra set of hands whenever I can.

Beyond the excellent training opportunities at Trinity Health Muskegon, my deciding factor was the resident atmosphere. During my interview interactions, I was struck by the strong sense of camaraderie and the positive, supportive energy among the team. Our conversations flowed naturally, and I left the interview feeling impressed by the program's quality and excited about the prospect of joining a supportive group of peers.

On top of the great team atmosphere, Lake Michigan and all the surrounding nature appealed to me. Being able to hit the beach or trails on weekends sounds fantastic and makes Muskegon feel like a great place.

Why I chose this program/location for my training

I chose Trinity Health Michigan for my residency because of the strong sense of community among the residents. Knowing that residency can be a challenging journey, I wanted to be part of a program where my co-residents felt like a second family. When I visited Muskegon, even in the heart of winter, as a Canadian, that didn’t faze me; I could see the potential for outdoor adventures year-round.

Beyond the welcoming environment, I was drawn to the opportunity to pursue the OB track, explore a diverse range of electives, and train under a supportive and dedicated faculty

Hobbies/what I do outside of work

I love getting outdoors whenever I can — whether it’s hiking a new trail, swimming in open water, or just soaking up the sun. When I’m indoors, you’ll find me strumming my guitar or playing piano, usually making up songs as I go. I also have a bit of a green thumb; my plants are taking over my apartment. Painting helps me unwind, and I occasionally make podcasts.

Last but not least, FaceTiming my family is a must, even if it's just to have them sit through me cooking dinner!

Muskegon is where I was born and raised. I have a strong desire to provide healthcare for this patient population, and I want to help Muskegon become a stronger and healthier community. During my last two years of medical school, I was based in Muskegon for my clinical rotations. Not only were the residents and attendings friendly and supportive, but I received a lot of 1:1 training that I believe was invaluable to my education.

Plus, Muskegon has tons of state parks, hiking trails, breweries, and you can't beat the lakeshore!

I chose the Fruitport Family Medicine Residency because I feel at home within their program. The attending physicians and residents are compassionate for delivering health care to the greater West Michigan population as well as being nurturing in their learning environment.

Being a West Michigan native, the residency has a strong sense of community and dedication for giving back to the area. From the staff in our clinic to the people we serve, I am proud to call this residency my home.

I enjoy going to the gym and outdoor activities, especially when given the chance to hike or backpack. I enjoy my golden retrievers and our walks together. Any pick-up sport I am willing to play. I also like to read, particularly Stephen King's work.
